Meet the Governors

Marian Smedley

Foundation Governor and Chair of the Governing Body

Marian has experience in working with primary aged children in schools and particularly supporting Young Carers locally. She is an active church member and, as Foundation Governor, provides a link between the church and school. Marian has a long standing relationship with North Marston School as her children are former pupils and her granddaughter now attends the school.

Responsibility Areas: Safeguarding, Numeracy, Pupil Premium, More able pupils, Behaviour, Performance Management, Equalities.

Cathy Gouldstone

Head Teacher

Cathy is the Head Teacher and works closely with the Governing Body on strategic matters. Cathy keeps all Governors up to date with school issues and attends all meetings where discussion and questions can take place.

Sue Chadbund

Local Authority Governor

Sue has a background in education and has been Head Teacher of two local schools. She has two adult children and two grandchildren.

Responsibility Areas: Special Educational Needs, Music, Art, Questionnaires, Performance Management, Science.

Siobhan Kirwan

Co-Opted Governor and Vice- Chair of the Governing Body

Siobhan lives in North Marston and she and her husband are short term foster carers. She has a son in Year 5 and a daughter who was at North Marston school and started at Waddesdon School in September.

Responsibility Areas: Literacy, School Council, PHSE, questionnaires, Performance Management. Chair of the Management Committee which meets every term.

Mark Payne

Foundation Governor

Mark has worked in the IT industry for more than twenty years. His son and youngest daughter currently attend the school and his eldest daughter left in 2017 to go to Waddesdon Secondary School.

Responsibility Areas: IT, RE and Data Protection. Chair of the Curriculum Committee which meets every half term.

Lucy Kent

Staff Governor

Lucy is the Year 5/6 teacher and Assistant Head at North Marston School and represents all this entails on the governing body including providing detailed information and supporting the governors in their strategic role of monitoring the school.

Tim Buckley

Co-Opted Governor

Tim’s early career was in journalism before becoming a business consultant specialising in employee engagement working with some of the biggest names on the high street and UK business including The Post Office, Sainsbury’s, Moss Bros, Transport for London and Rolls Royce. Tim exited his business in 2013 to focus on working in the charity sector. He is currently chief executive officer at Care of Police Survivors, a charity that supports the families of police officers that die on duty. In addition, Tim is a non executive director and consultant with two Buckinghamshire-based businesses.

Responsibilty Areas: Governor Development and Community liaison.

Rachel Tomlinson

Co-opted Governor

Rachel has 40 years of experience as a children’s nurse and has recently retired from her role as Director of Nursing at Willen Hospice, Milton Keynes. Rachel has lived in Buckinghamshire for 21 years and has three adult children and two adult stepchildren and 8 grandchildren so far! She is keen to give something back to the local community.

Responsibility Areas: Early Years, Forest School.

Steve Parslow

Parent Governor

Steve has lived in North Marston for many years and can turn his hand to most practical things. He is an active community member and leader of the local cubs and scouts. He also serves on the Parent Teacher Association.

Responsibility Areas: Health and Safety, PTA liaison.

Christine King

Co-opted Governor

Christine has lived in Buckinghamshire since 1997 and moved to Granborough in 2003. She is a Chartered Surveyor and has worked in Commercial Property Investment and Residential Valuation before retiring in 2017. Christine enjoys skiing, cooking, cycling, keeping fit and gardening and growing vegetables. She is keen to use her skills to support the local school and is particularly keen on developing sport.

Responsibility Areas: Sport and PE.

June Heath

Parent Governor

June has worked in publishing and communications throughout her career and has a keen interest in language and literacy. She has a son and a daughter at the school.
